With the 2008 Summer Olympics now a memory, here’s the final medal count for
known gay and lesbian athletes who competed in Beijing:
GOLD
Gro Hammerseng & Katja Nyberg, Norway, Handball: Part of gold medal-winning team.
Natasha Kai, USA, Soccer: Part of gold medal-winning team.
Matthew Mitcham, Australia, Diving: Gold medal winner in men’s 10 meter platform competition.
SILVER
Vicky Galindo & Lauren Lappin, USA, Softball: Part of silver medal-winning team.
BRONZE
Linda Bresonik, Germany, Soccer: Part of bronze medal-winning team.
DID NOT MEDAL
Judith Arndt, Germany, Cycling: Finished sixth in the women’s time trial.
Imke Duplitzer, Germany, Fencing: Lost in the second round of individual epee competition.
Rennae Stubbs, Australia, Tennis: Lost in second round of women’s doubles with teammate Samantha Stosur.
Victoria Svensson, Sweden, Soccer: Lost in quarterfinal match to Germany.
